Hunters/Riding Horses
Riders should wear tweed jacket with collar & tie, though a coloured stock is acceptable. Plain leather gloves & a show cane, with top boots or half chaps. A correctly fitting hat with safety harness. Breeches should be plain, preferably beige.

Hacks
Male riders wear as above, but lady riders may wear navy or black jackets. If you are unsure whether your horse is a hack or riding horse wear what you think is appropriate, and the judges will put you on the right track, but you will in no way be penalised if you get it wrong!

Riding Club Horse/Show Hunter
As for Hunters. Remember in the Working Hunter ONLY horses may wear protective boots for the jumping phase.

Cobs
As for Hunters.

Show Ponies
Navy or black jacket, smart collar and tie, beige or canary jodhs, brown or black jodhpur boots, correct hat, show cane, plain leather gloves.
Do not go overboard with the ribbons and make-up!!.

Hunter Ponies
Tweed jacket and brown jodhpur boots. Appropriate colour shirt and tie. Cane etc. as for show ponies.

Racehorses

General
Horses and ponies plaited except cobs who should be hogged.
It is also considered correct dress for ADULT riders to wear spurs, but this is optional.

Other than the Working Hunter class, where choice of bits is up to the rider, only snaffle , Pelham or double bridles should be worn in the other classes.

Working Hunter riders should remember that their horse must remain in the same tack throughout the class.

If you are lucky enough to get through to the final championship at HOYS, adult riders should wear top hat and navy/black coat whatever category their horse is.
